33rd Anniversary of Halabja Chemical Attack

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani issued the following statement on the 33rd anniversary of the Halabja Chemical Attack:

On the 33rd anniversary of the chemical attack on Halabja and its people, we honor the martyrs of this odious crime by the Ba’athist regime, that killed thousands of innocent people and injured thousands more, as many still suffer from these acts to this day.

Halabja has become a symbol of the struggle and sacrifice of the Kurdish people around the world, and we must always honour the memory of the victims of this crime and continue with our efforts to ensure the families of the martyrs and the wounded are compensated for this crime against humanity. We will persevere in our efforts to prevent the recurrence of such atrocity towards the Kurdish people, other nations, and persecuted minorities all around the world.

The Kurdistan Regional Government, which was build with the blood and sacrifice of our martyrs, considers it a priority to support the honourable families of martyrs. In the past few days, within the framework of the government’s provincial development project, we announced the start of several service delivery and infrastructure projects, including bridges, roads, water, electricity, and the renovation of schools and hospitals in Halabja Province. I hope that in the future, we will be able to provide even greater services to Halabja and other parts of the Kurdistan Region.

I invite you all to join me in paying respect to the martyrs of Halabja and all the martyrs of Kurdistan, whose memory we always carry in our hearts.

Masrour Barzani
Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region
