Prime Minister Barzani Presents Economic Vision at Davos 2025

On January 20, 2025, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani expressed his satisfaction with attending the first day of the World Economic Forum in Davos, representing the “House of Kurdistan.” At an event attended by Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid and several Kurdish investors and stakeholders, the Prime Minister highlighted this significant achievement. He thanked everyone involved in establishing the “House of Kurdistan,” particularly Khalid Khorshid, for their efforts in this regard.

The Prime Minister emphasized the Kurdistan Region’s potential to become a gateway for Iraq and the broader region, aiming to foster economic progress. He also paid tribute to the late martyr Peshraw Dezayi, who tragically passed away last year under unjust circumstances. Masrour Barzani expressed his gratitude that Peshraw’s son, Kak Roji Dezayi, was able to join the delegation this year.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister also reflected on the rapid changes in the region, citing Syria as an example. He emphasized Kurdistan’s role in contributing to stability and peace, while continuing to advocate for the rights of Kurds in Iraq and beyond. He reiterated his hope that Kurdistan could be part of positive regional developments and stressed the importance of unity among Kurdish factions to achieve these goals.

Masrour Barzani discussed recent efforts with Baghdad to secure Kurdistan’s constitutional rights and financial entitlements, expressing optimism for progress. He underscored the region’s commitment to building stronger economic ties and creating opportunities for global investment in Kurdistan.

The Prime Minister concluded by expressing his hope that 2025 would be a year of prosperity for the Kurdistan Region, with private sector development playing a pivotal role in advancing its economic infrastructure and reducing reliance on government revenues. He reaffirmed Kurdistan’s position as a key player in regional and international economic partnerships, aiming for continued growth and collaboration.

In Davos, Prime Minister Barzani met with a series of world leaders. Among them: Dick Schoof, Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, Sheikh Mohammed Al-Thani, Prime Minister of Qatar, Alexander De Croo, Prime Minister of Belgium, Jan Lipavský, Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic, Kahlid Al-Falih, Saudi Minister of Investment, and many others.
