Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received General Matthew McFarlane, Commander of the Coalition Forces in Iraq and Syria, in Erbil on January 16. The meeting discussed the latest developments in Iraq and the wider region, the continued support to the Peshmerga forces in the fight against terrorism, the threat of ISIS and the importance of maintaining border security in border areas.
The Commander of the Coalition Forces in Iraq and Syria pointed to the progress of cooperation and security coordination between the Peshmerga and the Iraqi army in the fight against terrorism, especially during the last year and reiterated the importance of promoting the coordination to fill the existing security gap in the areas of Article 140 of the Constitution.
The Prime Minister thanked the US and the coalition forces for their continued support to the Peshmerga in the fight against terrorism to the reforms in the Peshmerga Ministry.
The Prime Minister gave an overview of the outcome of the recent visit of the government delegation to Baghdad and their meeting with Iraq’s Prime Minister, especially the development of cooperation and security coordination between the Peshmerga and the Iraqi army.
