KRG Deputy Prime Minister meets French Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Armed Forces

In the meeting, also attended by KRG senior officials, Deputy Prime Minister Talabani expressed his appreciation for the continuous military and humanitarian support of the French government to the Kurdistan Region.

Ms. Parly praised the role of the Peshmerga Forces in the fight against Islamic State terrorist group, ISIS, particularly during the liberation of Mosul. She also commended the Kurdistan Regional Government for accommodating and offering assistance to a very large number of internally displaced people, IDPs.

Praising the victories of the Peshmerga Forces, Mr. Le Drian, reaffirmed the continuation of his country’s cooperation and coordination with the Kurdistan Region.

Deputy Prime Minister Talabani highlighted the plight of the large number of IDPs who fled ISIS atrocities and took refuge in the Kurdistan Region. He stressed the need for international support to ease the burden on the Kurdistan Region.

French Minister of Armed Forces discussed areas of cooperation with the Kurdistan Region including education, economy, humanitarian assistance to the IDPs and reconstruction.

The KRG Minister of Planning briefed the French delegation about the situation of the IDPs and the reforms undertaken by the KRG.

The two sides agreed to strengthen bilateral relations.
