KRG Council of Ministers meets the Kurdistan Region factions of the Iraqi Parliament

On the 8 September 2019 the Kurdistan Regional Government Council of Ministers met with the heads of the Kurdistan Region’s factions in the Iraqi Parliament and members of Iraq’s parliamentary finance committee. During their meeting the Erbil-Baghdad relations, oil exports, regional debts and constitutional rights were the main focus on the agenda.

Prime Minister Barzani and Deputy Prime Minister Talabani spoke in-depth on several topics with the parliamentary factions. First, they briefed the attendees on the ongoing talks between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government of Iraq. Disputes between Erbil and Baghdad should be addressed within the framework of the Constitution of Iraq, and that the two governments would engage in a real and balanced partnership.

Regarding oil exports, the Council of Ministers’ presidency presented data and key information, financial dues and monthly oil revenues. Additionally, the Prime Minister and his deputy noted that the Kurdistan Region’s debts were part of the negotiations with the federal government of Iraq. Concerning constitutional rights, the KRG expressed its commitment to its duties and noted that it will in no way compromise on its constitutional rights and prescribed powers. At the end of the meeting parliamentary factions welcomed the initiatives and agreed hold further joint meetings to enhance coordination and improve the flow of information.
