President Barzani attends opening ceremony of COP28

President Nechirvan Barzani was among the distinguished guests, including heads of state, royalty, and world leaders, who participated in the opening ceremony of the World Climate Action Summit at the UN climate conference (COP28) in Dubai on December 1.

As part of the summit, President Barzani and other world leaders attended the Zayed Sustainability Prize awards ceremony, the UAE’s pioneering global award that recognizes and rewards small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), nonprofit organizations (NPOs), and global high schools with sustainable solutions.

This year’s winners are climate activists who have demonstrated that new solutions can be found to address the challenges and consequences of population growth without harming the environment.

President Nechirvan Barzani was also invited by His Majesty King Charles III and the President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to attend the opening reception of the COP28 Business and Philanthropy Climate Forum on November 30 in Dubai.

The ceremony serves as the opening event to launch the inaugural COP28 Business and Philanthropy Climate Forum. The Forum, held in partnership with the Sustainable Markets Initiative and other organizations, is running in parallel with the World Climate Action Summit. The reception brings together the presidents and heads of states who will participate in the first two days of the summit.

Various entities, including countries, the United Nations, inter-governmental agencies, NGOs, and the private sector, engage in extensive research and discussions regarding the threats and risks posed by climate change. Moreover, they collaborate to develop comprehensive plans and implement effective measures at a global scale to address these challenges.
