On December 16th, the city of Erbil was affected by heavy rainstorm which result in grave floods. The total of casualties is twelve and it is estimated that more than 2000 homes have been damaged or completely destroyed.
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani visited the city to see the damage caused by the floods and assured the city government and the citizens of the full support of the Regional Government. More heavy rain is expected in Erbil and other areas in the coming days, therefore the Prime Minister urged all Kurdistanis to stay safe while first responders carry out relief efforts.
The Prime Minister stated: “I’m deeply saddened by the loss of lives and damage caused by last night’s heavy rain and flood. My thoughts are with the families of the victims and all those affected. I’ve instructed all government agencies to provide immediate support and relief to areas affected.”
