Prime Minister meets diplomatic corps

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani convened a meeting to provide an end of year update to consuls, representatives, and diplomats in the Kurdistan Region.

Prime Minister Barzani expressed his gratitude to the foreign envoys for their unwavering support throughout the year, which has been marked by hardship as well as resilience and optimism. As the new year approaches, Prime Minister Barzani shared his hopes for a brighter future for the Kurdistan Region. He noted that efforts towards a positive and meaningful agreement with the federal government of Iraq would continue in the best interests of all people in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

Highlighting the KRG’s ambitious reform programme, Prime Minister Barzani emphasised the government’s plan to modernise and diversify the economy of the Kurdistan Region, in turn bolstering trade and investment across the region.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the KRG’s commitment to peace and security. He welcomed the support of the international community to the Kurdistan Region and the Peshmerga forces in helping to combat security threats, including the re-emergence of ISIS. Prime Minister Barzani thanked the representatives for their assistance to the KRG and to the people of the Kurdistan Region in hosting more than 1.1 million displaced people and refugees.

Prime Minister Barzani concluded by wishing the foreign envoys a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
