The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Council of Ministers issued a statement today strongly denouncing the attack on the office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in Baghdad and the burning of the Kurdistan flag, an assault on the constitutional integrity of Kurdistani rights in Iraq.
“The Kurdistan Regional Government strongly condemns the burning of the Kurdistani nation’s proud symbol and the attack on the Kurdistan region’s political representation in Baghdad.
“We denounce all violence and any form of attack based on an individual or group’s race, ethnicity, gender, or political affiliation and we will not tolerate attacks against the Kurdistan Region’s symbols and political parties.
“We call on the Federal Government of Iraq to take swift action in ensuring the protection of party offices and foreign missions in Baghdad and across the country, and to take necessary steps against the threat of outlaw groups.
“The Kurdistan Regional Government has the constitutional right and responsibility to defend itself, its citizens, its achievements, and its flag from any attack or abuse.
“We call on the Federal Government to take legal action against the culprits and hold them accountable to prevent the further deterioration of civility and the degradation of constitutional rights in Iraq.”
